Why CBD became so popular?

Updated: Jan 22, 2022

What is CBD?

CBD is a cannabinoid found in cannabis. Then, what's the difference between CBD and Hemp? Both hemp and marijuana are forms of cannabis, the difference between the two is the quantity of THC, which is the name of the cannabinoid that ‘gets you high’. Now CBD can be found in almost everything from skincare to acholic drinks. Which brings us to the question, why is it so popular?

Benefits of CBD

CBD use has been shown to improve some symptoms related to anxiety disorders. Researchers are currently investigating how CBD may be used in the treatment of other mental health disorders. A Brazilian study showed 57 men were given CBD either oral or a placebo 90 minutes before they underwent an anxiety induced test. Researchers found that a 300mg dose of CBD significantly reduced anxiety during the test (1). Whether it was a low or high dose little to no effect was reported in those who were given the placebo (1).

Danielle Frey, licensed aesthetician at Bloom Skincare Mendocino, talks about the two leading causes of skin aging and common skin issues such as acne and hyperpigmentation are:

  1. inflammation caused by irregular functions in the endocannabinoid system (cell receptors responsible for balancing key functions of your skin)

  2. free radical damage to the epidermis

According to a Clinical Investigation in 2014, CBD may reduce swelling, pain, redness from existing breakouts, or irritation from skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.
